Mission Statement

The University of Akron Football Booster Club is comprised of former Football Players, Cheerleaders, Marching Band, Trainers, Equipment Managers, Mascots, Dance Team and Supporters of the Zips Football Program.  We provide opportunities, connections, engagement and involvement through tailgating events, home and away game events, special reunions and regular communication while supporting the athletic, academic and career success of current football student athletes.

Project Nutrition

Akron Football Boosters and Friends of the Akron Zips Football Program –
As you may know, the University is struggling with its finances and has been assessing its budget allocations for the
various sports programs, including the football program.  Several supporters have stepped up and provided interim
funding to allow the football team to pay for particular necessities to get through the spring semester.

One area that continues to be a challenge is meals for the players who live off campus and receive a monthly
stipend (the “Off-Campus Players”).  Unfortunately, their monthly stipend is insufficient to cover housing costs and
food.  Often, these players go without proper nutrition, especially at the end of the month. Those players who live
on campus have access to the on-campus dining facilities and adequate nutrition.

The University has stepped up and agreed to provide dinner for the Off-Campus Players during the week, so some
nutrition issues have been addressed.   Unfortunately, breakfast and lunch continue to be an issue.  We have met
with coaches and players, and they would be very grateful if we could assist with breakfast.  Given the team’s
weekly practice schedule, it appears that the weekends have the most need.  Accordingly, we’ve contacted several
local breakfast restaurants for support (the “Selected Restaurants”), and they’re all eager to be involved with a
program that helps provide appropriate nutrition for the team (“Project Nutrition’).

Project Nutrition
Our short-term goal is to provide a weekend breakfast plan for the “40” Off-Campus Players through the end of the
spring semester, which we estimate will cost approximately $15,000. To facilitate this plan, we’ve arranged to set
up a separate fund at the University to accept donations. The coaches will use these funds to take the players to
the Selected Restaurants and purchase on-site meals when appropriate.
